Emilio Hidalgo, NV Gobernador Oloroso, Jerez
$289.20/ 6-bottle case
NV Gobernador Oloroso - aged for the most part without the protection of the veil of flor, Oloroso develop rich aromatics from oxidative ageing. This Oloroso has seen about 2 years of ageing under flor, but once the flor ‘died’ naturally, the wine spent a further 10 years ageing oxidatively. It is drawn from the same solar that also develops the much older Oloroso Villapanes. A ‘young’ Oloroso bottled at around 12 years of age, the wine is already wonderfully complex with aromas of walnuts, tea and toasty vanilla. The wine is dry, smooth and well-balanced and incredibly versatile - try it with a variety of meat-based tapas or a dish of braised beef.
About the producer
Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo in Jerez (not to be confused with Bodega Hidalgo-La Gitana from Sanlucar) was founded in 1874 and has developed a reputation for producing elegant, refined sherries. Located in the historical heart of Jerez de la Frontera, the winery is housed in a late 19th-century building of classic sherry-bodega construction: thick walls, high ceilings and tiled roof, ideal for the ageing of Sherry.
Today, the fifth generation of Hidalgos runs the bodega, carrying on the family’s rich sherry-making heritage. The new generation maintains the traditions that have been carefully preserved and enriched for more than 145 years. Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo continues to be recognized as one of the top producers in Jerez, recognized for its high quality and distinct style.
