Coucher de Soleil Wine Bottle

2020 Coucher de Soleil, Vin de France (Château de Cérons)

$397.20

$397.20/ 6-bottle case

The first orange wine from Bordeaux. 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 50% Sauvignon Gris.

Picked early on August 27, 2020, at dawn in order to protect the aromas and freshness. The white grapes are vinified like red, a 5-week fermentation, macerated on the skin and a daily punching of the cap. Maximum protection against oxidation to preserve the aromatic signature and mineralogy of the wines of the Cérons terroir. Aged for a short time in small stainless steel vats.

“At Château de Cérons, an amazing Bordeaux orange wine: at first glance, the brilliant light yellow colour looks like a dry white wine. But the surprise is immediate on the palate seized by aromas of orange peel and nuts with smoky notes and a very fresh saline finish reminiscent of eucalyptus. The whole is very straight, crystalline, all vertical with an incredibly persistent orange bitterness. Coucher de Soleil (‘sunset’) a Vin de France, will first be entrusted to sommeliers and chefs who know how to make it shine on their menu. Château de Cérons invites you to an audacious adventure” Audrey Marret, 10/11/2021

About the producer

Château de Cérons, largest and namesake Chateau in the smallest appellation of Bordeaux: 10 winegrowers and 21 hectares of vine. Owned by Xavier and Caroline Perromat who took over the management of the Château in 2012. 4 types of wine are made here: the sweet golden nectar that is Cérons, like their neighbours Sauternes and Barsac. Then red and whites under the Graves appellation and now, new to the estate, an orange wine, possibly the first in Bordeaux (classified as Vin de France).
