Emilio Hidalgo, La Panesa Especial Fino, Jerez

Emilio Hidalgo, La Panesa Especial Fino, Jerez

$535.20

 $535.20 / 6 bottle case (750mL)

Likely the oldest fino regularly in the market, this has an astonishing 15 years of age! It is called ‘Especial Fino’ (an unofficial term) and it is indeed very special. Normally a fino of this age would have turned to an Amontillado already, it takes a lot of work to keep the veil of flor alive for so long. By keeping the solera (laid down in 1961) in the most humid part of the bodega, lots of monitoring of the humidity levels and temperature are required.

A very complex wine, lots of aromas on the nose such as yeast, polished oak, seawater, lactic notes and mushrooms. A concentrated palate of olives, toasted notes and almonds, smooth and very harmonious, this is a special fino indeed!

About the producer

Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo in Jerez (not to be confused with Bodega Hidalgo-La Gitana from Sanlucar) was founded in 1874 and has developed a reputation for producing elegant, refined sherries. Located in the historical heart of Jerez de la Frontera, the winery is housed in a late 19th-century building of classic sherry-bodega construction: thick walls, high ceilings and tiled roof, ideal for the ageing of Sherry.

Today, the fifth generation of Hidalgos runs the bodega, carrying on the family’s rich sherry-making heritage. The new generation maintains the traditions that have been carefully preserved and enriched for more than 145 years. Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo continues to be recognized as one of the top producers in Jerez, recognized for its high quality and distinct style.
